Only God Could Create…

New Life from Dead Wood!

New growth springs from the Rose of Sharon tree in our front yard.

I have been keeping an eye on our Rose of Sharon bush all winter. Waiting on the first little bud to arrive. Yesterday was the first day I saw growth, framed beautifully between two husks from last year’s glorious blooms. It poked out it’s first transitional sprout for the upcoming year. Somehow, He has a glorious plan for each and every blossom…and there will be hundreds!

This has been a difficult time if my life with the loss of two dear friends in the space of a few weeks. In addition, I spent a day in the hospital myself as they diagnosed whether my own chest pains were an indication of a serious event in my own life. (I’m ok). So the renewal of new life and seeing budding flowers and watching God bring color back to His world is extremely reassuring. Take a minute to smell the roses! Even if it includes taking in a bit of pollen!

Take time to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior and abide day to day in Him. When I sang Abide With Me at a friend’s funeral, I decided to share it with my OnlyGod friends on my next post.

Read these words and consider walking with Him every day…

Abide With Me, Henry F. Lyte 1847

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide;
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see—
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour;
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness;
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies;
Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
